Hey yall, hows everyone doing?

So petco has their sale on for $1 a gallon tanks, and this may be my chance to upgrade from the 29g to the 40g, my filter will do fine on it, and i think my heater is enough? its 100w and it says up to 40 gallons? so would it do okay? because i think i may need to mess with the temps..

Would i need an extra bag of live sand for the upgrade? i got 20lbs in the 29g tank and it covers it well (29g tall)

ill be putting more live rock in after awhile slowly, but right now ive stuck with my 25lbs.. and i probably could switch my lights over, should i get any bio spira? or would it be okay to just dump all the water and old sand into the tank tank, the live rock then top off the water with salt mix? then add the fish and wait for the cloudiness to fade, or should i throw in the old sand, add the new sand, live rock, old water and then the fish etc..?

any advice welcome and appreciated! ill only be moving frags anyways so my lights will be moved to that tank

I wouldn't use the old sand. I would suggest getting all new live sand. Switch everything over, chuck the old sand, or rinse well and dry it out to save for whatever you might need it for. You would use as much of the water from your tank as you can (just dont stir up any nastiness before taking the water out).

I still stand by my recommendation. Lost of nastiness can collect in the sand in that amount of time. Of course, it's your choice and it might not cause any issues at all.... but my stand has always been "better safe than sorry" I'm sure others will be along shortly to give their opinions. Take them, and mine, with a grain of salt and make your decision based on what's best for you. :D

True!

Probably will use half then so that my starfish has some food hahah

He's a sand after so I don't want exactly brand new and tho I'd probably buy a whole new bag and use half of the old sand , obviously I'll be taking all the water out and into the new tank then the sand will get stirred up, and perhaps cleaned a little!

Just wanna get a 40g now they're $40, I can always wait awhile too before even moving everything, because I will need a hood and I'm not too sure how to go about a diy cheap hood?

id start with all new live sand. buy the tank wile its cheap but take your time setting it up. it will pay off in the long run.
