Was bored the other day and thought... “I want to try an algae turf scrubber.”
Had a couple things on hand and threw it in the sump.
4 parts I had laying around:
Led grow bulb
Glass ice tea jug
Old powerhead
Nylon crafting fabric

Flow feeds in through a modified spigot on the ice tea jug and the flows over the mesh and out the top.

Anyone willing to put a bet on this actually working?
I give it 25% odds of working. There is plenty of nutrients for it grow with.

Depends; did you scuff up the mesh giving algae a better chance to grab ahold of? Lol

Either way, I’d say given the spectrum making that area favorable, I’d say itll grow!

Kick it up a notch by adding a small air stone to the mix, maybe positioned “inside” your mesh “tube”.

That was the recipe in the beginning. The basic scrubber was water flowing across or down the screen in an area not fully submerged/ open to air and lit with the right light.

Be interesting if you put the air stone in there, you would get a lot of salt spray at the top though. Cheato idea for sure
