Is there any better way or easier way to remove phosphates then gfo? I don't like gfo because I can never get it to tumble properly and it just turns hard.

Water changes, less feeding and heavier skimming. Maybe dose a carbon source.

aye, the pirate has a good idea. i also say do mor water changes and you shoud be st matey.

what kind of equipment are you running?

You can use Blue Life Phosphate RX to remove phosphates from your tank but it is a temporary fix and before you use it read your directions carefully because you can do damage your corals if you remove to much, to quick.

I have a 300 gallon sps dominated tank. Custom sump with 2 7 inch filter socks. Large skimmer carbon reactor and dosing pumps for cal, alk, mg. also dose no pox.

You need to find out where the phosphate source comes from, then you can have a better solution to control it.

I have used Lanthanum Chloride in the past with good success. may want to read into it but you should address the source of the phosphate in the long run.

You can also use a binder that doesn't initiate precipitation of calcium carbonate, such as the aluminum-based binders like Seachem Phosguard or Kent Phosphate Sponge.

Also, you can grow macroalgae or use an ATS.

I detail various phosphate methods here:

Thank you for your help. Is there a gfo in a larger particle that does not require tumbling that would be able to be used in a reactor to remove phosphates? And is there a way to use a certain ratio to control how much phosphate you remove as to not strip the tank complete?
