i been fighting nitrates on my tank and some how they always seem to stay around 20. current set up is 75 gallon DT with a DSB and about 90 lbs of LR a 20 gallon sump with a refugium and a DSB with about 15 lbs of LR rubble with chaeto and a ETSS Reef Devil. i trying to see if any body here are using bio pellets or algae scrubbers. i been reading a lot on the bio pellets and most people have great success with them. also i have a friend that have and algae scrubber on his tank with no skimmer and he manage to maintain his nitrates and phosphate on 0.

Hey hey I heard my name hahaha. I use algae scrubbee and love it. Come see my tank for results been growing corals for like 8 months using exclusively ats

Awsome people who prefer skimmers seem to like them a lot from what everyone says. Just take it slow and don't have to much flow can cause issues

there are quite a few of us here in the club that are using Ecobak from Warner Marine. I have been using them for the life of my tank(about 16 months) and couldnt be happier with them.

Hey gmoney. What guide lines are you using for your ATS. I saw new ones that are based on how much you feed.

Yea go off feeding guidelines gets better greener growth and ultimately more scrubbing power. Less nutrients to more screen gets thinner darker growth and doesn't filter as good

I've been running Bio Pellets since last July, I love them. Heard a lot of great things about scrubbers, but I don't know anyone who is using it.

I also use biopellets and honestly have mixed feelings. In no way am I bashing them, but I seem to always run into competing bacteria issues, whether it be cyano, dynos, etc. It could be that the biopellets are just exposing my tank for the imbalance in bacteria it currently possesses, but I wouldn't do anyone justice if I didn't give account of my experience with it. I just got a new skimmer that is 3 times the capacity of my tank, so I'm expecting better things in the near future.

I will keep you posted.

Awsome mitch glad u got a new skimmer hopefully that will fix your issues. If not you know who to call to convert haha.

I have been using biopellets for a couple of months and at first I had some cyano but not too bad. I have pretty much left the tank alone and the cyano slowly went away the tank is looking really good considering how bad it was last year. I am by no means running a low nutrient system. Some of my rock is what I started out with probably 15 years ago and has been through a few crashes so I'm sure it is loaded with stuff. I really haven't been testing much lately but the last time I checked the phospate was very low. The reactor is a DIY recirculating one so I can have the pellets tumbling pretty well without having to run too much water through it. I also have a huge aerofoamer skimmer that is rated for up to a 1000 gallon tank on my 110.

Rule #1 With any Carbon Source you must First have an extremely effecient Skimmer to remove the excess waste produced from the Carbon Source (Pellets Included)
You will see better results with a better Skimmer!

Mitch, I honestly think you will have an opinion change for the better real soon.

The good news is we have Jon Warner coming in town this weekend. He should be able to answer most of the questions we have about bio pellets! Should be a good presentation.
