Wondering if there were recent changes to GE2. Has anyone used this specific product recently and had success?

Saw a thread claiming GE 2 has crashed someones tank even after they let it cure a full week. They believe it may be a mold inhibitor issue.

myself and many others I know have used it in the past with no issues but have not used it in the last couple years. Only used the new GE 1 recently and have not had any issues there.

this is a pic of the current GE 2 silicone packaging im curious about.

Don't do it... I was wondering what the difference was and I found out the hard way. Wish I would have spent the extra 20 bucks on aqueon the first time. Just buy the stuff made for aquariums, cure it for a week and be worry free. Trying to save 20 bucks cost me over 500..

There are numerous posts about GE crashing tanks. They are true stories I know first hand. I just wish I read them before I used it and not after

I did talk to a rep. While it Is 100 percent silicone in the tube there is also trace amounts of mold inhibitors. It's a marketing loophole. 100 percent silicone with a few things added
I've been told they only changed the packaging and the formulation is still the same, but following along curious to see what is said.
I did some searching around the forum. I think about 5-10 years ago was the latest it was safe for aquariums. I seen it all over that GE in general is no longer suitable. Which explains the huge surge in the asi and aqueon market. Anything within the past 5 years is all ASI or Aqueon. Maybe some green tubed DAP (aquarium safe)

Can you please confirm you are talking only about GE 2?

I find it hard to believe GE 1 is not suitable for use as I used it 3 months ago without issue.

Both contain the mold inhibitors now. Either you didnt use alot or you let it cure for a month. Redoing a tank or building a sump with the mold resistant will destroy a tank within a couple hours. But if nothing happened to yours, take the get out of trouble free card and run. Don't use it again because you may not be so lucky

Yes it did it did sit for more than a month before use. Did they confirm a longer cure time eliminates that worry?
