I have so many anemones in one of my tanks that it seems a shame not to have any clowns in there hosting them (I keep my mated pair of Oscies in a separate tank with no anemones). I had a gorgeous gold-stripe maroon but he was so nasty that I could not add any more fish to the tank once he took over so I sent him back to the LFS. My oscies were pretty nasty in that tank, too (thus, the separate tank now) but I would love to see a clownfish (or two or three) in the tank with all the anemones.

Are there any clowns that are eager "hosters" that don't terrorize a tank? I've never had a tomato or a Clarki.... are they mild-mannered?

Thanks in advance.
Sue

Tomato and clarki and maroons are more on the aggressive side.

I am debating a pink skunk clown for myself.. Worth a look into. There are the pinks and orange skunk clowns.

If you introduce multiples of the same breed into the tank at the same time (as long as there is ONLY one clearly defined female or all male/gender neutral), they should be fine.

One will be female, one will be male, and the others will live in gender limbo until it's time for one of them to step up.

Having multiple anemones will also help lessen aggression.

Thanks for the info. I'm not so much worried about the clowns being aggressive towards each other, I just don't want them to claim the 92 gallon as their own and not permit any new additions in the future. When I had my pair ocellaris clowns in there they would attack and kill any new fish I tried to put in there. I would love to see some clowns hosting the anemones but I'd also like to be able to add the occasional fish or two in the future, ya know?

lol I have very similar worries when it comes to clowns, not so much my entire tank by a significant area.. That's why I don't have any right now and like I mentioned the pink skunks seem to be a good choice. I did a bit of searching and they seem to be the least aggressive. No personal experience from me unfortunately. Hopefully somebody can chime in who has/had them.

My single ocellaris never picked on other fish but would always go after my hand. She's gone now (died) and my percula pair are as nice as can be. They don't go after other fish, or after me. I don't have a anemone but they do host in one of my large mushrooms. They don't even chase other fish away when they come near. But my tank only has complete community fish. So maybe they don't feel threatened at all. I'd love to one day try a pair of black clowns.

Good luck with yours.

What about the gladiator clowns? Love the but I am worried that they will be aggressive towards my gold assessor.

All depends on the size of the tank I suppose.

I had a 500 gallon tank and it had Clarkii clowns, blue stripe clowns, tomatoes, perculas, and Indian Ocean clowns and they all got on together and with all of my other fish.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll try a few ocellaris in there. As a matter of fact, since my "terrorist" pair are regularly laying eggs, maybe I should just have some patience and wait until some of the babies are big enough to transfer into that tank.

The gladiator looks interesting - never saw one in an LFS.
