The clam unfortunately is not going to make it, its severely gaping. There is no noticable new shell growth so the clam most likely was doomed before you got it. This seems to be an ongoing trend with LA. My honest opinion, I'd get a refund instead of getting another clam from them.

Ok, thanks all for the feedback, I'll just wait and see I guess. I've already contacted liveaquaria, they asked me questions about my parameters and setup and since it hasn't come off of the shell its still alive and to wait. ;Nailbiting

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your parameters. Look into pacific east aquaculture, they've got nice clams. What's your warranty on the clam? Not trying to pry but the clam will continue to disintegrate and not come off the shell like they implied. I hope they don't pull a fast one.

They've got a 14 day guarantee so I should be good. They told me that when it dies to take a photo of it in front of a white sheet of paper and send it to them.

Sounds like they are trying to get a bit more strict and if they know about clams they could look at yours and begin your refund. My opinion on warranties for clams is that they really serve no purpose. An unhealthy tridacna can look good and "fool" a hobbyist into looking healthy by having great mantle extension but new shell growth is the tell tale sign. Clams can live months like this then just up and die which sends the hobbyist in a frenzy thinking it's the tank that did the clam in. Their are obvious signs like pinched mantle, pyramid snails, etc, to look out for but seeing new shell growth says a lot.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with me. I'll stick to just fish from them now, I've had good luck with fish. :)

I went through a few clams from LA. Found a local guy and have had much higher success. Most of the time the clams they ship out are already on the outs. I do know one guy that order from LA not DD and his is still doing fine though.

+1 on @DSC reef comment regarding gaping. Don’t wait it out, get your money back as that’s what I would do now I know what to look for in clams....

If they value your custom, they’ll replace it for a healthy one or reimburse your expenditure. SIMPLE.

A.

They have to be REALLY unhealthy to die from a shipment. Even an unhealthy clam can live for a few months and not a few hours or days. This is a pretty common trend with LA. I really wish that nobody would ever buy a clam from them again. What is terrible is that they were quite good a few years ago.

Make sure that you get your refund. They said that they were going to refund me and I had to remind them.

Look at pacificeastaquaculture for clams in the future. They have some really good specials from time to time.
