Any idea what this is on my Swallowtail?

I’ve not even had her but 5 days and she’s been great since then. Never seemed stressed. Ate heartily right away everyday several times a day and did today at noon as well. Tonight I noticed she was lingering at a different end of the QT than she usually does and didn’t seem interested in eating. Then I noticed this crusty thing on her other side up by her fin. It looked like caked on food or something. I kept having to use the feeder bulb to spin her around to get a look at it but it floated off and just left a sore of some kind. Any idea? I put Kanaplex in the water column but don’t know what else to do. Temp is 79, Alk is 9.5, salinity is 1.025, PH is about 8.2. Ammonia and nitrites are 0. This QT has been cycled for a long time and just took fish out a few weeks ago that had been in there almost 3 months so I know the water is fine plus we had did a good water change anyway. Is she going to make it? Is it a bacteria infection and the kanaplex will work or did she come to me having been exposed to uronema? ((Cry))

Looks fungal. I would treat with furan2 or something similar.

I have some furan 2 is it okay to use it after putting the kanaplex already?

Yeah, but she’s always seemed to not be afraid of the feeder bulb, most of my fish eat right out of the end of it. I did try catching her with the net though to get a better look and she didn’t want any part of that so took awhile to net her so she still as a lot of fire in her. She’s been very well fed since I got her and she’s in the tank alone

Metronidazole and praziquantel are especially effective when used as food soaks. Antibiotics such as nitrofurazone or erythromycin may also help prevent secondary bacterial infections.

I usually use metro with focus in the food but she didn’t eat anything tonight so not sure she will tomorrow either

Looks like her fins are clamped and if she’s not eating that may indicate a bigger issue.

She was a SWYG fish and the other side of her that doesn’t have the wound she looks like her advertised pic so I don’t know, in person her fins look normal to me.

That same side the day I got her (Tuesday), nothing there. I don’t know when it developed since then but didn’t notice it until today

Bacterial
Many bacteria are naturally resistant to specific drugs, so using the proper type of antibiotic is of the utmost importance. This appears to be gram positive and is generally caused by Stress, weakness, injury or even Introduction into the aquarium through a contaminated water source.
For treatment, Maracyn 2 is mincycline hydrochlor based and would be effective as it is a braod spectrum treatment.
Furan 2 is also a good rtreatment choice. Whichever you choose, I would treat in a seperate tank or container.
A freshwater dip and some melafix will offer the fish some temporary relief.

Checked on her a few hours later and she had passed. I don’t get it. She ate as normal at noon and I never noticed anything growing on her before as she swam around eating. It all happened really quickly it seems.

Post-mortem looks bacterial to me. Possibly septicemia. I’m so sorry for your loss. I’d contact the vendor and discuss it with them.

Yes I was thinking maybe septicemia too. The vendor has always done good by me so I anticipate the same this time around. Since she was WYSIWYG and was marked down $20 I’m wondering if she had possibly been in a tank with other infected fish and she was weak.
