Yet another LPS ID... This one is a peculiar one to me... I saw it in a discount pile, it looked like a birdsnest skeleton with a few zoa polyps on it. One of the polyps caught my eye, so I scooped the piece up.
Upon closer inspection, it does indeed have a few zoa polyps on it, but the one that caught my eye is not a zoanthid. It looks like it is actually growing from the skeleton:
Any ideas? You can see the size compared to the zoa in the background (slightly smaller), the skeleton looks like an old birdsnest and this appears to be growing from the skeleton (could be fused/encrusted, no way to tell)...
