A while back I had this grow on my clove polyp colony, I have no idea what it is and haven’t been able to identify it. It’s not a great pic of it in the tank, but I removed it and got a better pic. Just curious if anyone has any ideas of what it is? It had the consistency similar to a jelly

That’s nasty. No idea. It looks huge, like a human heart size. I hesitate to ask, does it move?

Clueless...

But... Welcome to Reef 2 Reef, and hope you feel at home!!

:)

My initial gut instinct is a dying tunicate that has cyano on it. I don't know of any rhodophyta algae that has that appearance. Looks like a salp, but they're not sessile, they're free floating.

Interested to see what some of the other ID afficianados think.

It never moved, it wasn’t there and it grew to that size in about 2-3 weeks. I thought it looked cool at first so I left it, but it slowly out competed the clove polyps. It was attached to the rock at the base

It definitely wasn’t dead, it was growing until the day I pulled it out. I wish I kept it, nobody ever knows what it is!

Please, the next time you have something to ID , you need to leave or put it in a clear container filled with water,it is very hard to ID creatures like that on dry surface.;)

Ya I definitely should have, it was a while ago. I didn’t think of that in the moment, but over time curiosity is getting the best of me.
