It must have been in a used canister filter I got. I ran vinegar water from a bucket for two days and cleaned all the media. After hooking it up to my tank this guy showed up.

The picture doesn't give much detail to determine what it is. Is it alive? If so I seriously doupt it survived a vinegar bath for 2 days. I'd think a change in flow flushed it out of the rock.

Yeah, not really possible to ID from that picture. Almost looks like a beetle larva or something.

It was dry rock just pursued from bulk reef supply. Sorry about the picture quality. It’s alive and the filter wasn’t used in over a year till yesterday.

Looks like the larvae of a Dermestid beetle. They feed on decaying organics. Wouldn't surprise me to see some in dry rock or a previously used, stored filter. It won't be alive for long.

Should I toss it. My sons really interested in it and I have no livestock in the tank yet. I’m in about one week of my cycle.

Put the critter in a cup and take a better picture. It's probably a thoroughly dead beetle larva of some sort, by the color and segments. On the off chance it's a live aquatic creature, keep some water in the cup.

Photograph it first so we can try to figure out what it is. Just pop a picture up real quick.

It’s up under my rocks so no chance getting a better picture. I’ll keep an eye on it. It’s been in there for three days so apparently it’s okay
