Any idea what this is????

Afternoon All,

Any one got an idea what this maybe, only appeared over last few days!! The top of the sand also looks like it’s solidified and this black hair or whatever it is is now living on top??

It's one of the cyanobacteria seen in reefs systems. What I would do is gently siphon off just the top layer, rinse in tapwater, soak in H2O2 to kill any spores left, rinse again then let it dry for a day or two before returning to the system.
