Got this frag in a battlepack a couple of weeks ago. The other two corals in the pack as well as all other corals in my tank look great. This one is having issues. I 10min dip all corals in Bayer, 1oz to 1cup sw, before going in my tank. Took this frag out today and did another dip and basted. Didnt notice any flatworm or red bugs.

Alk 8.1
No3 2-5
Po4 0.02-0.06
Calc 500
Mg 1500
Salt 35
Temp ranges 77.5-79.5 daily

Noticed my calc and mg are high so I shut off the dosers to let those drop

I don't see anything that jumps out at me. Looks stressed. Give it time.

Look into black bugs there are some questionable specks in that pic. I could just be paranoid though

Well hopefully the dip I just did doesnt kill it

Definitely stressed
Are you carbon dosing or using gfo?

Looks almost dead, to me.

No carbon, no gfo. Skimmer runs with the overflow tube open leading back into the sump. Battling to keep my nutrients up.

You can turn your skimmer off until you get your nutrients up. I’ve had frags not survive bayer or any dips for that matter. It can be the straw that breaks the camels back. I now put them in a quarantine tank for a couple days and dip them later. Look at them with a magnifying lens and put them in the display.

I think 10-minutes dip in a Bayer solution is too long. I think 5 minutes will be the maximum dip time in Bayer solution. The red bugs will almost instantly get stunned as well as flatworms. I recommend not exceeding two minutes for Bayer dips. I introduced this process and many have adopted it. It is still effective but many people have overdone the dipping time.

Thats why I opened the tube from the skimmer cup and lead everything back into the tank. Previously I tried only running the skimmer for 6hrs at night at the lowest setting. That didnt work and made my ATO only work at night because the skimmer changes the sump water level when its on. I am going to continue running it as is and if it doesnt work ill just shut it off.

Ill try a shorter dip next time.

You founded the “Bayer dip”? That’s great stuff!

I try to aim for 5 mins and have done as long as 8 mins with no effects. I find Bayer easier than say Melafix for some reason.

Anyway, if you founded the procedure, thanks!
