fish have been in qt since last Sunday. Just noticed this spot today near the tip of the gill. Fish has pop eye in one eye too. Pop eye started after freshwater dip. All other fish look fine. I was planning on dosing GC today to the tank. Should I start cupramine instead? Can I do both at the same time?

The spot, if only one, looks like could’ve been an injury. I would either observe a few days or you can start antibiotics.

Add 1tbs of unscented Epsom salt per 5g to help the popeye. Can repeat after 48hrs, if it starts getting worse use erithromycin. Good luck!

I did a freshwater dip a few days ago and no signs of flukes.

It could be flukes. Process of elimination. Start there by conducting a FWD.

Not flukes. Bad advice

Do you have any other indications of a disease? Does he/she eat, does he/she have normal colour, does he/she have normal behaviour, does he/she try to scratch him/herself - and so on

Sincerely Lasse

If you are going to use the GC for intestinal parasites, it’s better to dose the food directly (using focus as a binder) rather than the whole tank. I use two scoops of GC, one scoop focus, and 2-3 cubes of frozen food. Feed twice daily for at least 10 days, or until symptoms resolve.

Looks like an opercular spine?
Pomacentridae, Poma- = opercle, centron = spine, (refers to pointed margin of opercle)
