Idk if I'm posting this in the right spot or not but if not please feel free to move it :)

So I notice this new little patch of something (possibly nothing) on a piece of my live rock and thought I'd ask around see if anyone has any ideas...
Thanks in advance :)

Maybe the skeleton of an acanthastrea of some sort? Maybe favia but definitely a LPS form.

Post more pics. If it's a "new little patch of something", I doubt it's dead. It's not white, and it darker in contrast to the adjacent rock. It appears rose or orange in color, unless I'm looking at the wrong thing.

Not sure but to the looks of it it may have cyano or coralline grown onto the skeleton. I don't see anything that appears to be tissue. Do you see any tissue on it?

I didn't mean for it to sound so bad lol it excites me everyone I find a newbie in my tank lol
So at first it was rose colored (like a week ago) but now it kind of looks like coraline but it's still more rose colored than purple!

I couldn't determine if I can see tissue but as you can see in the pictures there is some sort of definition to it?!

Sticking with leptoseris myself, for now. Google leptoseris ShoniNikki, maybe you can rule it out.

Aren't those kinds of hitchhikers so much fun! How long have you have that rock? Was it cured live rock when you introduced it, or have you had it there for a while? I can see your coralline algae is just starting to form on the lit surfaces. I recently witnessed a fellow local reefer's tank with an Acropora that has spawned and "volunteered" in a completely different part of the tank. It's cool to see how the base of the volunteer is so deeply enmeshed in the matrix of the rock... more deeply than a frag encrusting.

That piece of LR came from a friend's tank that he broke down, he had it for a little over a year, it's got a ton of hitch hikers on it from what I've examined so far, it's Chuck full of flame red feather dusters, it's got like an encrusted shell of some sort on it that opens and closes often, there are a bunch of yellow sponges on it and it looks like there are a million trapped sea shells inside it! Like it grew around them and imprisoned them haha
