Just transferred everything over from my 30 gallon to a new 125 (6' long). Open to any ideas as to stocking for fish. Currently have 2 fish: bangaii cardinal and a clown.

Well, you've got a 6' tank... might as well do some tangs. Any Ctenochaetus (ex. Bristletooth, Kole) or Zebrasoma (ex. Yellow, Purple) would go in there. Even some Acanthurus (ex. Powder Blue/Brown) would work. Any reef safe wrasse or anthias would also work. And don't forget about the "little guys" to fill in the gaps - firefish, gobies, blennies, basslets, cardinals.

I already have 1 bangaii cardinal, so was thinking of getting a couple more to form a nice school. I also am considering a powder blue. Would i be able to have a blue tang (dori) with the powder blue? Or since they are both blue would that be a problem?

Would likely be a problem in that small of a tank. Powder Blues can have serious attitudes. I have mine in a 150 gal, and she kicked the crap out of every tang I put in there until I found a feisty Chevron.

Ok thanks for the input. Might keep the powder blue out and get some more timid fish.

Agreed on all of the above. I would limit to 2 Tangs though, and would not do a Blue Hippo, as I feel they get too large. I am a huge Wrasse guy, and so partial to them. For all Wrasses, you need a fully covered top. For some, you also need a sandbed.

Thanks for all the responses. Marshall since your a wrasse guy do you think i could have an exquisite wrasse and a leopard wrasse together?

Get trios of different anthias, lyertail, Bartlett etc etc. these will make the tank always active

Yes, you should not have any problems doing both. Make sure to use an acclimation box if you have an existing Wrasse and going to add another.

Is it possible to add them both at the same time? If so do i need to use the acclimation box? Just dont want to spend the money on new fish and introduce them wrong.

They don't school except when young. Anything but a male/female pair will beat each other up once they get some size to them.

Blonde Naso tang, blue tang is fine for a couple years, purple tang, anthias, foxface, dragonet. All good choices. This is the fun time when you look at fish and get to stock them!

Thanks for the information. Might go with another wrasse then instead of 2 more cardinals.

How long do you think the naso could be in the tank? And with the foxface could it be a permanent home or would i have to re-home it after a while?

I personally wouldn't get a fish that will outgrow the tank. That being said, if you get a small one, it could be a couple years before it outgrows it. The Foxface could be houses permanently. I have a full grown Magnificent in my 125.

Ok thanks for the response. I dont really want to put the fish through moving tanks like that so i dont plan on adding a naso to the tank.

So far i am planning on having:

1 clown (already in tank)
1 bangaii cardinal (already in tank)
1 exquisite wrasse
1 leopard wrasse
1 purple tang
1 hawk fish (not sure which one)
1 foxface

What do you think of the list? Anything you would add or change?
