So I had a 3/4" frag of a Tri-Color Acropora. It was in my biocube, which has three T-5 bulbs in it. The water quality was slipping downhill as I did not have a skimmer yet (I ripped out the old filtration and a skimmer was coming in the mail). The coral was doing very well. It had its polyps extended and looked happy. I installed the skimmer and cleaned up the tank. The water quality was way better. But the tissue started reassessing rapidly from bottom up. Within 4 days the thing was dead and the emerald crab was picking at the dead flesh. My birdsnest and montis are fine, but they are hardier. Everything else is in check.

Any Ideas? I want to know why it switched on me before I think about getting another one.

Thanks!

The better water quality leads to better light penetration it could have shocked it... Lower amounts of nutrients will shock it change of flow will shock it etc... Sps are finicky man... Now that your tank is dialed try a new one shouldn't have any issues...

also make sure you dip the new one... the first thing that popped in my mind with tri color is aefw "acro eating flat worms" that could have been the case also... do you see any eggs on the skeleton??
