Going to by a new aquarium. Glasscages in TN will custom drill a 120 gal. for me at a good price. Does anyone know of the company?

I have No personal experience with them. Just what I have heard from others that have. The only real issue that keeps coming up in conversations, is the fact that the sealant is terrible. and they have nothing but issues.AGAIN... This is just second hand. Others may have a different story, I only know what I hear.

I just ordered a rimless 120 and custom oak stand from them a month ago....tank looks to be well built and very heavy and so does the stand. Had to wait the 3 weeks before I could add water so this wknd I get to start filling it up. I have read reviews about the sloppy silicone work however I talked with Tom the owner before I made the purchase and told him about the reviews I have read about the silicone. He promised me that the silicone work would be above par.... surprisingly it was. I have no complaints about the tank as of yet.

Same experience here as well. Have bought 2 custom built tanks in the past from other places, but always read or heard that GC was hit or miss on quality. One consistant theme was that they almost always had the lowest prices. YMMV. Good luck!

Jon...

I had a 100 Gallon Rimless tank built by them that I just recently sold. Not a single complaint.

There are also at least 3-4 other tanks and frags in my local club that they built. No problems.

I bought a 300 gallon setup in Nov 2013..... they were great! Good workmanship, delivered on time, would use again for next tank

I have a glass cages rimless. They custom drilled holes for me at a vey good price and I'm very impressed by the overall quality. One seam did have a bit extra silicone squeezed out, but that was easy to trim, and hasn't affected the performance of the tank:

I have had a 180 from CG for a long time. Just sold it. I would have purchased another one of their tanks but I didnt have the time to wait the three weeks. I bought one from SC Aquariums instead. it was not custom.

all that said, they are good at what they do. Affordable glass cages.

Being local to them, we see a LOT of GC tanks in this area. Though yes, the silicone work is not always the best, I've never yet (at least locally) heard of a tank failure. The ones that I have heard about (at distance) have almost always had other issues involved that were likely the culprit. Home built, shoddy stands, uneven floors, etc. Not saying that there aren't better quality tanks on the market, but I definitely think you get more than you pay for with GC tanks.

Coast2coast custom aquariums. I read the the warranty for glass cages and it's super suspect. Something along the lines of saying its like 90 days from the date they start building it. That makes no sense to me. I also heard they use used glass for backs or bottoms of tanks.

Other than the warranty the part about the old glass is just hearsay

I ordered a rimless starfire tank a few years back. I also ordered a stand. Was not happy, the seams were messy (as you prob read from reviews on different forums). It seemed they used, a lot of extra glass to put the aquarium together, particularly around the overflow. The bulkheads were not the right specs that i ordered. The matching stand was supposed to have cutouts for the overflow, but they cut them on the wrong side and then said, there was nothing they could do about it. The bulkheads they gave me were unable to produce a seal effectively. I ordered new ones from BRS. That being said, it did hold water and once filled with sand did not look that bad. It was a little awkward picking up the equipment from the guys on the truck, meeting in a hotel parking lot in Allentown, PA I was the only recipient that day. Make sure you are very specific with the exact dimensions of what you want with accurate drawings and specs! They are doing something right as they are still in business, I'm sure it would be fine to order from them. They are cheaper then other companies, and I have only heard of major issues with tanks that are very large like a couple hundred gallons. good luck

I currently have a cumstom 90gal from them. Its very well built and the sealant on mine is very nicely done. They were nice and showed me around their place when I picked up the tank. I will definately order from them again.

My local dealer said he "wouldn't even buy a goldfish bowl from Glass Cages!"

That wouldn't surprised me. Glass cages deals direct to the consumer so your dealer would be selling to the same market segment.

The Tanks I mentioned in post #8 are all still operational. 1 of them is coming up to ten years old.

Ive heard that their rimless aquariums are of higher quality in terms of build than their rimmed. No experience myself.
