So I have a room that is 9' x 9' overall close to 80 square feet, which would typically result in a 5000 BTU A/C. My equipment puts out a good amount of heat especially the T5 lights. I know for kitchen areas your supposed to raise the BTU's by 4000 so wouldn't that be the same for this room since its putting out even more heat than a kitchen would? I will be having an 8x54w, 8x39w, and 6x39w T5 fixtures as I run two different tanks in the room. I was thinking along the lines of a 12,000 BTU A/C. Thoughts?

I would think it's plenty, but is this to cool the room cause it's to hot or to cool the tank from getting to hot from the lights? If it's for the tank I suggest to do an outdoor chiller cause the same thing happened to me, I had an air conditioner that made the room way to cold that was not confortable at all. At the end it's cheaper

Hmm.. an outdoor chiller I've never seen anybody do this. Do you just use a regular chiller in a shed or something? Thx

No I had tradewind chillers build one for outdoor. It works really well and you eliminate all the heat from the chiller itself when it's inside. It's not cheap but in the long run its more efficient.

We have several local club members using regular aquarium chillers that are plumbed and run outside. In these cases, they are typically in their lanai/covered area, but they are not specific outdoor chillers. In fact I'm actually getting ready to drill a hole in my house to plumb mine outside as well. My wife is very excited about me drilling in to our house!!!

I do havc. And 12000btu would be more then enough. Problem is it sounds like you have a constant heat source in which any Ac will probable run constantly. And actually by over sizing a unit you can cause it short cycle. Chiller is a good way to go you can always run pipes out side and have chiller out there. Might also consider add ventilation to bring in fresh air if it's colder out side. If your set on Ac I would shoot for around 9000btu. I have put 6000 in server rooms and worked great just ran all the time.
