I'm in process of getting a large sump/fuge set up for my display tank. I've never used a fuge before, so no experience with any type of macro algae. Are there any species that I should avoid or would potentially cause issues in my tank? Chaeto seems to be the most popular, but I might go for a variety. Will probably end up putting a layer of rock rubble in the fuge area so I can mount some to rock if needed to keep it from floating around.

Calurpa's can be very invasive. So invasive they are illegal to sell in some states like Ca. Some fish love it but if you don't have any that do it get into your display and take over.

You will find one type will be more at home in your fuge than the others. If you want to keep a variety avoid the fast growers mentioned on Russ's site

Dictyota sp. is the one I will said hard pass on. Attaches to everything, not particularly attractive, grows fast, and - here's the real problem - breaks into pieces the second it's touched, and those pieces attach anywhere they land. Even in a tank full of caulerpa it bugged me.
C. brachypus is another favorite but is small/delicate and shoots runners very quickly which can be challenging.
One thing I did in my last tank was give each macro its own rock to take over so I didn't have to worry about one overgrowing the other. Although everything growing together can be super cool:
