I need inspiration! Looking for little tanks with thickets of well-pruned sps! I have a young 18 gal that I am filling with mostly acro and monti frags and have a vision. Would be great to see if others have succeeded!
Any mature SPS nanos out there? Let's see them!

Keeping things stable long enough for full colonies to form is def the challenge. 5 gallon water changes every week religiously is working so far. I need to improve temperature control. There is not enough thermal inertia to keep it as stable as I think it should be. I need a fully tunable PID controller I think.

It has full Cree DIY LED from RapidLED. About 65 watts at this point, about 26 watts cool white, the rest mostly royal blue with about 2.5 watts each of UV, red, and green. The overall color is not as blue as I would expect. I have room to add about another 27 watts if I need it. Everything I have put in there has done well with good encrustation and growth, when I haven't been messing it up.
The tank is drilled and I have a small sump with a remora skimmer that does a pretty good job and is pretty bullet proof. The heater is a 250 watt Ebo that is in the sump, but I may have to move it to the tank for better response time. An interesting process control problem. I run the house heat and AC as little as possible so the ambient varies from about 58 to 80 throughout the year. I dose nothing, counting on the water changes to maintain chemistry. I may add a passive kalk reactor in the future if alk becomes a problem. Or increase the water changes - they are so easy and fix so much. A definite plus side to a small tank.
Are there other tanks out there like this that have been growing for a while?

Mine isn't full sps but has a few decent sized pieces. It is a 12 gallon all in one no skimmer or dosing, just 2.5 gallon water changes every week. It was going to be mainly sps but I have changed directions and started filling it with zoas. I am using a Vega as well.

Pretty sure it is a loripes. Most recent from a week or two ago it's in a but of disarray right now as I have been adding pieces of rock rubble to glue zoas to.

Sweet scape! Those big rocks in the middle with zoas kinda mess it up though. Should pop those suckas and glue them onto your scape. Keep the clams and fat blasto separate on the sand bed.Pretty sure it is a loripes. There isn't a lot of room on the scape for the amount of zoas I have but you are right the doughnuts look out of place. I started gluing the zoas to pieces of pukani rock rubble so i can get rid of the doughnuts hoping to make a little zoa area that is a more natural looking pile of rock rubble. We will see thanks

Not a problem I like your tank! With the acros and the cap I think it could look like what I am thinking of pretty quickly. I think you could pull off a long low island of rock where you have your zoas, that they could then colonize.

Yup. The October tank is pretty closed to what I'm looking for. Some of the others too. Good to know it can be done. Still my vision is a little different, a little more rampant. We will see how it works out.
