was wondering if parasites and bacteria in saltwater (in our aqauriums) would die when exposed to air? I thought I read some where that could ? I was lookin at some overflow style reactors is the reason I started thinkin bout this subject . reef octopus bio churn looks awesome is the reactor I was lookin at ! I guess that is the purpose of a uv sterilizer though:confused:

I can't comment on parasites, but bacteria can go dormant. They have taken blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) into outer space and when brought back, was still viable.

I'm not a microbiologist, but I can tell you that 24 hrs drying time kills all stages of Cryptocaryon irritans (SW ich).

See "Table 2. Methods for disinfection of Cryptocaryon irritans life stages." here: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/fa164
