Any one ever use these power heads?

I haven't used them, but in observing them, I don't think those suction cups will be strong enough to hold the power head in place for long.

They should be just fine. I got the 800GPH version and it held nicely. Though I now use it as my mixing pump for saltwater. It was too big a foot print for my 33L.

A friend had those and nearly electrocuted himself when they died....he said no more and got koralias....

Yea, I was wondering what size to get for my 30 long, I was thinking two 800GPH

Well that's no fun

What flow would you guys add to a 30 gallon long tank?

How much turn over should I go?

It's going to be my main frag tank

30 gallon tank needs max 900 GPH. Normally you do 30 times tank volume for flow. I would just use 2 of the maxi jet 400s.

Don't really like maxi jets and the "stream" they produce.

Does 900gph take into account turn over produced by skimmer or filter?

That was a concern if mine, I thought maybe a lil super glue would hold them though, it's a frag tank so looks aren't as important to me

you do not count your returns or anything else for example

I have a 92 gallon corner I should have roughly 2700 GPH , I was running 4 tunze 6025 , roughly 725 gph a piece. So I ran a bit higher however I was using one for blowing off the rock more then corals

I know you hate spending cash...LOL however this is going on a frag system. Grow out of frags are important, I would get a Tunze 6045 which has flow control on it. It can be changed from 400-1200 gph

[h=2]Turbelle® nanostream® 6045

Voltage / frequency: 230V/50Hz (115V/60Hz)
Cable length: 2m (8.7 in.)

Ejection: diam. 40/15mm (1.5/.59 in.)
Magnet Holder with Silence clamp up to a glass thickness of 12mm

you can get these pumps on fish-street.com for cheap (like $8) if you want the magnets you can pay a little more
or just use an old koralia magnet

I wouldn't use ebay pumps. I've had koralias spin backwards on me and rip off the face grill at the same time. I can't imagine that an ebay pump would be less likely to do that.

Man better not tell my tanks that. My 180 ran over 11,000 gph and was in love with the flow. My current tank which has 52g of water runs a mp40 @100% on reef crest and a modded maxi-jet with the 1600gph prop in it, so thats what nearly 5000gph? LOL

Flow all depends on what your wanting to keep, how you can position it, and what you are wanting to keep.... sps tank I would say 30x is a bit low, big lps tank 30x may even be a bit strong depending on location of pumps and corals ;)

All that said, I wouldn't really suggest going with the cheap ebay pumps you get what you pay for and when mixing saltwater (which is conductive anyway) with electricity I prefer to play it a little safer.

I've had the same thing happen with my korralia's but my cheap eBay pumps are still going strong, although, I would highly reccomend spending the little extra and getting the ones with magnets. I have one pump from eBay that has a magnet but is kinda odd in that it mounts and pivots from the bottom (if that makes sense) but it is a really good pump, I just got it because it was the cheapest I could find with a magnetic mount and it has been one of my favorites. It's been running non-stop for a year now, and I've got tunze's, maxi jets, korralia's , sicce's, jebao, no name Chinese ones. It's really hit and miss ime

I tried one magnet mount one for now if I like ill buy another. 24 shipped, can't beat that.

I have the double 1600 powerheads of that type, they are 3200gph, and I also have the 800gph ones that you are referring to. Love em, they work just the same as a Hydor. I have no issues, except on a start up just like the Hydors, they may clatter before catching. Still have them in use. No shocking, no nothing as far as problems.

i have never used them but i wouldn't use any pumps that use suction cups. i have always hated the suction cups because they tend to fall at random times and can cause tissue damage to corals

Nope can't beat it... til you get shocked or your tank gets electrocuted.

I have a ground probe, not to worried about it. If the problem occurs I'm only out 24 dollars.
