I found this Hermit Crab a few weeks ago. In all my years living and diving in the Bahamas I have never seen a tan colored, fuzzy Hermit Crab. If anyone knows what it is called please let me know. FYI the shell he is in is only 1 1/2 inches in diameter.

Thanks in advance,

Do you still have him?? was he a menace?

Anyone have an ID on this guy? Just got one and I am worried he will destroy my corals?

I believe this is an acadian Hermit Crab (Pagurus acadianus)

I don't think so, isn't that a coldwater species? I got mine from the LFS, they didn't know and they know everything, and it is happy in 80 degrees. Mine has the same purple and fuzzy claws and distinct black and white eyestalks/antennae, pics coming

I think I still have him, will have to check when I get home. He never bothered my corals except to steal food from them. I have mostly soft corals, gorgs, and neems, not to many sps. I have actually seen a couple more in the ocean since I got him. Its crazy, you never seen one in your life, then you see them everywhere

haha, I just frantically took him to the LFS, I am 95% certain he started destroying my montis and GSP. I'd love to hear otherwise, maybe i'll go get him back.

Also I started a new post because I wasn't sure we had the same crab, but it does look like it. How big is your tank? mine is only 4g so maybe thats the problem

I have a 20g. He never destroyed any coral that I know of, but did eat all my micro algae. Maybe yours learned to nip at corals being in captivity without much else to eat, who knows each one can have a different personality.

Aint that the truth. We honestly don't credit for their individuality enough. Imagine a forum like this for kids lol "i wouldn't get one if i were you, mine only eat glue and chicken nuggets"
