Has anyone had good experiences with other Auto Feeders besides Eheim? It seems like everywhere I read this is the only Auto Feeder that everyone recommends and nothing else. I’d like to know though if there are just as good Auto Feeders out there that can compare to the Eheim. It’ll be a big plus also if a comparable lower priced one exists.

I've been using one of these since 2019:

I now have 3 and an Eheim. I think I prefer these over the Eheim for the ease of filling.

I have the Avast feeder and it's amazing. You can put any size food in there and it will be distributed equally if you have it mixed up nice. Everything from flakes to powders (reef roids).

Not a cheap option at all. No timer built in either. Worth every penny IMO.

Agreed, I have one as well.

I have never had the Eheim, but I did run the Neptune AFS for years and was never happy with its inability to hold a consistent output over time. If price is the focus I suspect the one suggested by tbrown is just fine. But if you rely on an auto feeder daily I'm not sure there is any better than the Avast Plank.

I've been using this one for 6 months.

My only issue has been that if you're only feeding a few fish, the opening allows too much food though. I solved that by using a little bit of blue painter's tape (or electrical tape, either one) to cover part of the hole. Otherwise it's been great - especially for the price.

I recently bought a couple of the Neptune AFS feeders. I'm not happy with them AT ALL. They're INSANELY loud, the front tends to pop off when you're trying to remove the feed chamber from the device (spilling food all over), and one kept malfunctioning and getting stuck. They're garbage, which sucks because I've really enjoyed all my other Neptune gear. The AFS is a HUGE fail on Neptune's part! There's no excuse that a $25 junker from China outperforms their $110 "premium" tier feeder.

If you have an Apex or other controller, I recommend the Super Feeder ASF-1 (http://www.super-feeder.com/asfmodel.html). I've been using the same feeders for the past 10 years plugged into an Apex. It has an adjustable gap for different sized foods and holds a ton of food (and keeps it dry). You use a set screw to determine how long the feeder dispenses food each time the power is turned on. It can be a fraction of a second to several seconds depending on your tank. For large tanks, you can daisy chain a second feeder using two conductor, low-voltage wire (I think it uses 24V AC).

I've been using one of these on each end of a 6 ft tank and feed pellets (lately, TDO Chroma boost) 3 times a day. It has never failed me. I program the Apex to turn the outlet on for a minute at each feeding time, but the feeder will only dispense food for the set time (based on the set screw). Once it has dispensed the food for the preset time, it won't do it again until the power is turned off and then on again. This works great for a controller and their are no microelectronics or circuitry to fail in the feeder. As I said, mine are more than 10 years old and have never failed. I have a eurobraced tank, so the feeders sit on the edge of the tank and drop the pellets through my mesh screen.

Been using one just like it from amazon for close to 5 years now, Works great, and it has never over fed.

I originally bought an eheim, but it fell in the tank, and never worked again.
