The pistol shrimp pictured below hitchhiked on my live rock from Tampa Bay Saltwater. According to this Florida ID website (link below), the only pistol shrimp listed on their site is the Red Snapping Shrimp (Alpheus armatus). So since this pistol shrimp came from Tampa Bay, does this mean it must be the Red Snapping Shrimp, or are there likely various different pistol shrimp in the gulf? I ask because I intended to get a yellow watchman goby to pair with the pistol, but the Red Snapping Shrimp apparently does not pair with gobies, it only pairs with a certain anemone.
Unfortunately, I think the pistol took out one of my purple firefish (as I haven’t seen him for a week). I’m hoping that if I pair a proper shrimp goby up with the pistol, the firefish will know to stay away.
Can anyone please confirm whether this is the Red Snapping Shrimp? Thank you!
