Hey Everyone,

So I bought this frag of plate coral from my local coral shop and I’m wondering if anyone has any tips for me. The shop owner let me know it was an accidental frag because the original plate broke. I was told it was a cyclopensis. Attached is a picture of my frag and the mother colony.

Any insight is greatly appreciated !

By-the-by - where did you pick this up?

Your coral is a Cycloseris, formerly Diaseris. From what I know, these corals will grow into blobby humps or plates and then separate themselves into smaller fragments, sort of like self-fragging.

Awesome, I know some don’t Frag well so I wanted to check that as well. Thanks !

I've had 2 in my tank over a year. A long tentacles and a short tentacles both Australian. They are on the substrate in low light and moderate flow. I have never directly fed them. Both have grown in size very well.

Plate coral is very hardy and forgiving and Ive seen them go to death and resume life once again. Many are unaware but this coral is capable of moving itself in the tank similar to walking dendro. They should be spaced away from neighbor corals as they emit a secretion that is capable of stinging nearby coral with the secretion.
They tolerate a wide range of tank temperatures and should be in good water quality not elevated in phosphates.
They do not require feeding as they get their color and energy from their inner algae known as zooxanthellae so good light should be provided for production of this energy source

Yep, I bought a little diaseris which looks like this a while ago and it's been growing well in my tank. Produced many frags for me. These diaserises are easy to take care of and will eat anything u feed. They can have many frags of mouths and they do break off on their own once in a while.
