does anyone take any preventatives for disease or anything when they introduce a fish to QT tank? I have a new pair of small clowns , I paid good money for them , and want to be sure they do NOT die . They aren't showing signs of sickness except for still not eating , but it's only been 1 day. Maybe they are still getting use to tank. I'm just wondering if anyone treats the fish even without visible signs or just qt them in case they do end up sick.

Everyone's going to have a different opinion on this, but I only medicate my QT tank if the fish show signs of ailment. I've had great success with the Marine Land All in One medication. It covers a wide array of ailments and doesn't seem to be hard on the fish, although clowns are very hardy to begin with. This is just a starting point though, if a fish gets something serious, you'll need to up the medication to target the specific type of disease, i also like it because you can get it virtually anywhere that sells fish supplies. I'd keep a close eye on them, give them time. Try different foods, use garlic to entice them, enhance food with vitamins to help build immunity. Did you get the online or from LFS? If possible ask the previous owners what they were feeding and for future reference always make the current owners feed them for you before you make your purchase.

It was from a local breeder who only breeds clownfish. He actually gave me a bit of there food . He breeds designer clowns lightning Marion's, everything . I tried to feed them those pellets with some garlic and with a daily vitamin I feed my DT tank fish. They watched the food fall past them! That is what concerned me. I recently had a pair.of Cardinals that looked great and developed something 2 weeks later and both ended up dying . So don't want that happening to these 2

With my new fish in QT, I usually feed a soup of frozen mysis, enriched brine shrimp and normal brine shrimp (the latter is simply because I have it and need to use it up, lol). I find the fish are more likely to eat wet food when they are stressed. That said, it has only been a day. I have a healthy coral beauty in my QT right now, I feed him, but rarely see him eat. if you are feeding pellets, it should be easy to see if they eat the food later, maybe they do not like to be watched while they eat?

How are your QT water parameters?

Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrites 0 ppm
Nitrates 10 ppm
I eventually want a dwarf angel but that will be last fish probably. Maybe flame angel. Hope it doesn't get ick.

I wouldn't worry about a not eating for first couple days, however couple questions :

How long ago did the Cardinals die?

Where they in that qt?

If so, Did you break it down and sterilize all equipment and tank?

Happy reefing

Cardinals passed a few weeks ago , they were in qt. I broke down entire qt , ran bleach and tap water through it for 2 days . Emptied , then ran RO and a dechlorinator through it for another day. Then I emptied again and dried it out for a day. And setup new from some media from my DT sump. That's what I was told to do so I did it .

Ok, good!

Have seen many skip that step.

I'd give them a couple days to settle in.

Check out the sticky on how to quarantine in the fish diagnosis and treatment section. Lots of great info and discussion on this topic. Happy reading!

They're both hosting a small little PVC elbow . Or hiding . They seem ok. I'm going to try and feed them again. I was only supposed to get one , I already have a clown in my DT that's about 1 1/2" . I want to pair one of the clowns up with the one in my DT. I had 2 in DT but they were constantly fighting so I was forced to give one away to a reefer on a local forum who's son had a biocube. I got the 2 new clowns because I want one inside QT permanently as an ammonia source so I don't have to dose ammonia or anything . I may set up a frag tank or something !!!! Who knows! This hobby seems to be endless money .

Ah, yes. When I spray bleach water at work I am reminded of an indoor pool.
You don't have to keep a fish in quarantine, use keep some extra media in your display that can be moved over as needed. Or just through some flake food in the quarantine occasionally to keep the bacteria.
You won't want that clown to beat up on newcomers to the quarantine and potentially expose it to disease and have to be treating it for stuff all the time..

I have a bunch of media in my DT sump now . Only a sponge filter , nitrate reducing pad , and some sort of fine media pad. And I agree , but I have 2 clowns in my quarantine now , and I also have my original clown in my DTthat I will NOT get rid of ! I have had it for 6 weeks and I could probably hand feed it ! Maybe I'll create a frag tank of some sort from a used setup on Craigslist and put a clown in there . Not sure what to do.
