Any problem mixing saltwater in new tank?

I am going to be getting a 45 gallon Max E170 on Wednesday. I currently only have 5 gallon buckets, and one powerhead. Rather than mixing 5 gallons of salt water (and having to wait 3 hours for it to mix), then adding at to the tank, is there a problem with just mixing the salt water in the actual tank? Any potential issues with this?

Ive done it.Just wipe tank out.Add RO DI water,heat.Then salt

You can mix it in the tank. I did with mine. Mix it before anything else is added though. Add water, run the returns, add salt. Room temperature is okay, then run the heater once mixed.

Thanks! I was planning on adding my rockscape (dry reefsaver) in prior to adding the water, as I want to build and glue it in the actual tank. I know its not ideal but is it ok to have the rock in there?

Yes it’s ok. Try to rinse off any dust or debris w rodi prior to putting it in the tank

Actually, I'm going to be doing this myself .Setting up a used 150 gallon.Going to fill it with all new water.then transfer live rock from my old 40 gallon tank,that will become my new sump.Then add the fish that are also in the 40.

Yes adding rock 1st is what I did. Either build your scape and glue it together so you can remove it and rinse it or rinse it 1st the make your scape. Either way is fine It's what I did

I have had it curing in 5 gallon buckets of salt water for the last month. Although I heard recently it isn't needed for reef saver. Either way, a bunch of dust/crap has come off, so its been beneficial Thanks for the info!

As many have said this won't be an issue. It's more common to do in larger tanks. That being said I would consider getting a larger container such as a brute just in case one day you have to do a larger then 5g water change. Not saying you need it now, and you may never need it, but there is a good chance you will some day.
