Any reef related injuries out there?

3 years ago I tore my right bicep tendon which required surgery then. Fast forward (almost two months ago) to a week before Christmas and I guess my left bicep tendon started to feel left out. I shut my main valve to install a Rubbermaid 100 gallon sump on my system. The valve was stuck and I had to crank on it with my left hand. When the valve snapped open the whipping motion caused me to tear my left lower bicep tendon.

Just got out of surgery this morning and curious to hear other stories. A little out of it so ignore any typos, etc.

Here's to 6 weeks before I can get back to fragging and maintenance...

I did this with garden shears or bone cutters. Can't remember. I just remember it hurting and me going ou. Ou. Ou.
Stitches and some heavy antibiotics cuz I was "working on my reef tank". Lol
D

when i started my tank, i tried collecting stuff from florida (legally) & a mantis shrimp stabbed me then while i was staggering to shore which was like a few hundred feet away, saltwater burning me, fish were nibbling at the skin & i cut myself many times on the reef i was walking back through. i was screaming in agony but the only people that could hear were some drunk partiers. left a massive blood trail and my mom had to clean it up she said dissapointedly, "man, I would not be good at crime scene clean up" as she is into true crime haha
 
Anyone else here hurt their back during water changes? I've been doing water changes by the old fashioned way: old water removed by siphoning into 4x 5 gallon buckets; then, pouring salt into 5 gallon buckets, mixing by hand, then dumping back into sump. I've been doing it this way since 2005. I have 3 large tanks! Age finally caught up to me. Hurt my back during the holidays in December. I automate everything now. Should've done so awhile ago. Too late now. Sucks that it took an injury to make me change my ways

yes. all the time, one time i got a concussion from falling, banging my head on the door, so hard the doorknob knocked a hole in the wall & then got hit by a half full 5 gallon bucket

I was about to add this. I’ve pulled my back out a few times dealing with water. I’ve always had a bad back though.

Hope you heal well and quickly

For me- about 5-6 years ago, I bought a 360g that was 35" deep. I went to place rock and coral in it and beny over the top trim, and heard what sounded like a person twisting bubble Wrap. My right side hurt bending over the trim to reach the bottom of tank. I switched to the left side and same thing happened. This time I realized, I cracked 5 ribs. Was a long 10 weeks to healing.
 
Legally blind in left eye as a result of getting squirted with some mushroom juice and developing a nasty infection that ate 60% of cornea

was scraping a mushroom off rock with razor n a stream of juice shot right into My eye

better account: i got attacked by a mantis shrimp sliced up my feet on the reef & fish ripping at my skin, pure horror cause i saw a 12' shark a couple hours earlier & i was bleeding profusely, left a blood trail several hundred feet long. walked barefoot on the burning pavements, my skin eaten raw by the fish, cooking my flesh, i sought relief so i walked on the grass only to embed the sharp grasses that exist near the seawalls in florida into my feet, every step was pure agony then i could only get relief through more pain, pouring hydrogen peroxide on my feet.

I still do it this way. My tank is only a 5g but 1/2 a bucket of water is still heavy. After reading this I should automate. :-)

Wow! That is scary! So sorry this happened! It is not a safe hobby to be in that's for sure.

Wow! I hope you heal quickly! Makes me realize this is a dangerous hobby inside and outside of the tank!

There goes any desire I ever had to have a mushroom! wow scary stuff.
