does anyone here scuba dive? thinking of getting up close and personal with the Great Barrier Reef and wonder if anyone here has?

I'm a PADI certified master diver, but I've never been diving on the barrier reef. However, I do have about 70 logged dives in Costa Rica, Mexico, southern Spain, Aruba, Bermuda, the Florida keys and new England.

Come on... there's gotta be more scuba divers here! Nobody's been the the GBR?

i dive also and was suppose to go, but the person i was going to stay with ended up moving back home for unseen reasons. it's still one of my dreams.

PADI wreck diver, been to cancun, several places along baja pen. puget sound, fiji, and samoa.
Looks like so far i have come the closest to GBR, would love to check it out someday.
Fiji was awesome some of the reefs start less then 15' from the shore line!

I'm PADI certified... been to the GBR, but it was before I got certified (seeing this reef actually motivated me to get certified). Snorkeled there several times and I have to say it is pretty awesome. However, having said that, some people might say that it is overrated, but those are probably the same people that were taken to the dying or bleached parts of the reef. The thriving parts are still pretty awesome.

Look into staying at Heron Island... it's a dive resort right in the middle of the GBR and looks pretty sweet (I've been looking at returning for some diving).

As far as what I've actually done to date for comparison... dove Cozumel, Belize (The Blue Hole among other sites), Hawaii (Maui to be exact), and some local sites in CA. The GBR was by far the best and most diversified collection of animals. Right now, I'm planning a trip to Fiji, so I'll see how that compares.

Stylaster! Any chance you could share what you know about Fiji (dive locations, shops, etc,.). I'm going to Fiji, and hopefully AU for the GBR as well, this summer for my honeymoon. We don't often have the money to do boat dives, so shore dives is often what we end up doing. But honestly anything you could share that might help would be much appreciated.

Wow, no NAUI divers huh? Seems like everyone took the easy way out.

:xd: hahaha... Didn't want to say it, but I was thinking the same thing. Although in the end, no matter the certification, we all end up in the same place (underwater) so I can't rag on others for taking an easier path.

We need to get a scuba/snorkeling forum going on R2R to share dive site reviews and some pics! I asked about it a month or two ago in the and had minimal response. If you guys are interested, post in this thread and maybe Rev will start one up!
