Got a few tiny little red bubbles. Noticed one on my powerhead a couple weeks back and I took it out to scrape it off into a water changed bucket. This rock is into my sand bed and a base rock. Seen some horror stories from this stuff so nervous as to what I should do

It could be red grape algae, although I'm not seeing the typical "stalk" or rhizome usually associated with it. The other option is red bubble algae, a color variant of green BA. What are your nutrient numbers? If it is BA then you might have an issue because it can take over a tank. I went through the nightmare with the green version last Aug and ended up swapping all my rock at my LFS for cured LR and virtually starting over. Luckily I avoided a cycle. The absolute worst thing you can do is pop the bubbles in the tank (or have an emerald crab do it for you) as that allows it to spread through spores. Some people encourage it's growth in their tanks, and while it is pretty it can get out of hand fairly quickly. Tangs LOVE the stuff, but my tanks not big enough for one, hence the drastic measures.

The only parameter that is little off would be my nitrates which can be between 10-15. I do have one spot where I see 1 little green bubble algae. My tank is only 40 so I think a hawk or tang is out of the question. I use a rodi unit. Ato and change 10ish gallons weekly

seems to be only growing on spots that are already red

botrycladia

take each surface its on and remove from tank, use a knife to scrape them off and dig on the anchor points to dislodge cells, hit with a dab of peroxide afterwards as insurance. rinse, put back, guide it out it can be invasive where its not wanted. where it is wanted, such as feed for tangs, it doesn't grow well lol

Would it be okay to leave this stuff for a year you think or will it get outta hand by then ? I plan to upgrade to a 120 when I buy my house and tangs will be present. These rocks are 2-3 inches in my sand bed. Nervous about disturbing them

Some really like the stuff, macro focused tanks pay for it ha! The right way to recommend it's research on keep vs ditch is to see invasions/worst case scenarios on how turnarounds were attained. There are some botry invasion threads on rc

Of the countless algae challenge tanks we catalog, botry was maybe ten or so tanks and a few were bad invasive

It's like valonia, controlled in some tanks not so in others. I'd remove it from my tank personally, I've no fish grazers
