The extra size of the original drain is probably to keep it quiet and as a form of reserve so there's plenty of extra capacity in the event of a partial blockage.

Why did you reduce the size of the drain line? Ideally never restrict the drain.

If it was just for the connection to the sump, then personally I'd redo it without that connection. Hopefully that connection isn't necessary tho.

Are those check valves in the one photo? What are those in the design for?

I got the whole tank setup like that im new to overflows so I didn't know I reduced it because i didnt know i could tie of to 2 holes on the sump for the 2nd qs yes they are check valves it was designed like that

K. I wouldn't split the drain if I could help it. But it will work if you do.....you just lose the advantage of the 1.25" drain that you paid for. Not the end of the world. :)

Unless the sump is too small to hold your overflow water when the power is off, I'd probably remove the check valves. I'd at least test it that way (unless you can't get in there to remove them very easy).

Sump is big its crazy hard to reach to the check valves i tried to take it out and it was hard

Might have to remove the bulkheads and reinstall them.....may or may not be worth it.
