50 gallon tank

I run a small BRS carbon reactor about 6 hours a day and have pom pom in my fuge that I light for 8 hours over night along with my protien skimmer.

I have never had any measurable phosphate levels, and nitrate never gets to 5ppm even if I don't do a WC for over a month. I normally clean sand and change 5-7 gallons every week.

I've had cyano problems only in the sand bed since I have had this tank. There is quite good flow along the sand as well. I have used chemiclean and it was gone for a week, I have also done a 3 day blackout and it was gone for about a week as well.

At this point I dont know what to do, I am thinking of adding about 10 cerith snails to try and slow it down more. If anyone has any suggestions I would be very thankful for you sharing them.

The pics below are about 10 days since I did a sand cleaning. I will run a syphon thru a filter sock and get a lot of it out if I'm not doing a WC.

Could be caused by a lot of different things... Do the chemi clean cyano treatment it works recall well ....... BTW always check your TDs on your top of water that causes it too

just shy of a year, also forgot to mention i have a UV light that runs with the reactor

Yes my ATO water is 0 td, I just replaced my RODI 2 months ago

Sea lettuce and chaeto do better at absorbing excess nutrients

Avoid changes plus raising nitrate and phosphate usually works for the tanks I’m responsible for. The tank looks fine other then the cyano, so I wouldn’t change more then just raising the nutrients a bit and keep them at at say 3-5ppm nitrate and 0,05 ppm phosphate.

I had a big cyano problem as well when my tank hit around a year. I did the same as you, blackouts and chemiclean. In the end, what worked for me was adding a bunch of CUC that focused on the sand. I added 4 cucumbers, 2 fighting conches, 1 tiger conch, and 10 Nassarius Snails. It took another month or so, but it has worked. It's been about 4 months now, and still looking good (knock on wood).

And for raising my phos, just feed more? I can up coral feedings to every day

Thank you all for your input

Yes. If you feed the corals, reef roids seems to add some extra phosphate.
You could also use KH2PO4 or other additive for raising just phosphate.
