Good evening? Morning? Night? I'm not sure what it is considered at this time!
Does anyone have, or has heard of, a good plan for a hang-on-back refugium? This concept intrigues me and I would like to give it a try.
Thank you and have a wonderful day.

Sure, I've seen chaeto thrown into the mini fuge on AIO tanks. That counts right? I like having macros planted in the tank, it gives a nice natural look. An HOB refugium would be tough because it would take up a lot of space, I think. Could always run an algae reactor.

Funny you should mention an algae reactor as I am currently building one. The hang on back refugium I think would just be a cool way to have it out and about, and simply because I like the concept.

Take a look at the CPR Aquafuge, been around for awhile.

jmo I wouldn't waste my time or resources on it ,, my thoughts on a refugium are ,, go big or at least a decent size ,, or go home ,, if space is limited ,, even if its not ,,, get a Algae Reactor ,, I love my Pax Bellum :)

I never did like the idea of hanging stuff on to the display tank anyway ,, jmo it looks cheap ,, cluttered ,, not eye appealing ,, even if its not a HOB Refugium and in the sump area ,, still takes up a lot of space for the amount of benefits from of it ,, I have friends that disagree ,, they have 20g to 30g Refugiums under their tanks ,,

The extra space I have in my sump tank area ,, I have a big sump tank ,, I like to get the biggest sump tank as I can ,, my display tank stand is longer than the display tank so that I can put a over sized sump tank under my stand ,, is filled with Bio Spears ,, a pretty good amount of them ,, I have always thought the pay off for the Bio Spears was better than the Refugium and I have the Pax Bellum ,,

A big refugium is definately not "required" to be effective. BRS did an investigates and found that a hang on refugium, even with a cheap light, will take up all waste nutrients feeding one cube a day. Even if you feed more than that, something is better than nothing.

I used to use an Aquaclear (HOB filter) for that on my nanos. Just get the biggest you can fit, cut the mesh part of the basket and glue it to the overflow back into the tank so the chaeto doesnt escape. Then to dial back flow, just lift the intake tube up away from the impeller to get your desired flow
