They don't actually release spores, but any fragments left alive can grow into a new anemone, no matter how small. So, for example, running it through a blender wouldn't kill it, but leave you with a hundred or so tiny anemones.I feel like that would cause it to release spores though.

As a side note, I prefer covering them with kalkwasser paste, as it doesn't require the tricky "inject it before it shrinks".
As another side note, this anemone is quite pretty as far as aiptasia goes. Longer tentacles, looks like they're almost purple tinted. Very cool, FWIW
