Decided to finally visit my lfs. They had a lot of birdsnest frags and got this one for 10$. Just wanted to make sure i placed it well. There is a powerhead pretty close by and the torch next to it is swaying in the flow. I dipped the coral and removed from plug, and superglued. Is it okay i superglued it a little sideways?
params are
1ppm nitrate
.02 phos
420 calc
8.0 dkh
Mag 1320
Getting my .2 dkh consumption per week from all my lps. All my lps is getting full expansion. I noticed a little bleaching near the base of the frag is this okay? My params have been staying very stable for the last few months

Birdsnest not very picky. Assure moderate light and water flow. Additionally, ph range 8.0-8.2 and salinity 1.024-1.026.
Alk under 9 and calcium in range.

Thanks. Should i worry about the small amout of bleaching? Or is this from the fragging. It came off a very large colony the size of a football. They probably fragged it today or yesterday since i was able to peel it off the plug from the putty.

My bird’s nest has crazy polyp expansion and I have it at the very top of my tank under 2 AI Prime lights. I don’t really keep track of all my water perams unless something is going wrong. All I do is dose calcium, give it light, watch it for signs of unhappiness (bleaching, poor polyp expansion, not growing), and make sure it’s getting lots of love! It’s the one with the green tips and two main sticks that look like Ys

Personally, I don’t worry about a little bit of bleaching around the base of a new stick frag but that’s probably because I shove the one end in a rock and it dies a little bit from poor lighting (obviously since it’s literally shoved into a rock). If the bleaching expands then kind of watch it to make sure nothing’s bothering it (flatworms, parasites, overgrazing clean up crew, etc) and you might want to check if you could be light burning it (move it down in your tank and see if it does better) good luck!

It seems to have open up already, i placed it under my ai primes maybe 7 inches under. The polyps seem to be moving a little. There was a little bleaching near the base, but i was in and out of the store in like 10 mins.

No problem! Good luck with it! Just asking, but from the pics you seem to have pretty poor polyp expansion. If you saw the mother colony at your lfs then you should probably aim for your frag to look like that if not better. I don’t know if it’s my specific frag or birds nest in general but they seem to be super fluffy and mine doubles (at least) in thickness when the polyps are fully expanded. Mine seems to like a low flow/ high light and if you have yours in a high flow area that might be what’s causing the polyps to not expand which will kill the coral very quickly!

Its not in that of a high flow area. The polyps seem to have open bigger. I bought it today like an hour ago. Ill post another pic in a few hours.

Oh okay, since you just now put it in I don’t see anything to worry about, check it again near when the lights go out and I feel like it should be fully expanded and happy by then. It already looks much better!

I think you’re on the right track. Just keep it up and don’t change too much. Pretty soon you’ll start seeing nearly daily growth. I check my birdsnest and see little spikes popping up here and there that I didn’t notice the day before.
