I bought an inexpensive low end 400x Meiji microscope to figure out what kind of Dino are growing in my tank but I’m having a hard time setting up a good slide. I colect a sample off the glass with a scraper and dab it on the slide then cover but the Dino are never moving they just sort of sit parked and I have a pretty thick Mat of them that’s hard to distinguish.

I tried just a water sample but I never see much in just the water. Any suggestions on how to setup a better slide?

Try taking the mat and swirling it in a small water sample, till you can see the water become a bit cloudy and remove the mat. Use a pipet to draw up the sample to reduce sucking large chunks of mat. See if this will pull up some dinos without being overly too thick and still provide a sufficient amount of dinos for you to see.

Here are some photos I took based on your suggestions. I think I have multiple types
