Yesterday my alkalinity was at around 7.8 (which is fine) but my calcium was at 380ppm so I set my redsea doser to add a bit. Then after 5 hours I noticed my sps started peeling and knew something was off with my Alkalinity, I tested it and it read at 9.3. Is there any way to decrease Alkalinity fast

That's at about the maximum you should increase over a day. I would let the number come back to where you like over time rather than inducing another big swing

You added calcium and the Alk went up?

imo 7.8 to 9.3 shouldnt be a problem that sps peel instantly….

dosing calcium and alk increases is also pretty odd.. cant imagine that

anyways stop dosing let it come down by itself and start dosing when its back down where u want it

the word FAST isnt a good one in this hobby tbh

avoid another quick spike and dont decrease it.. just wait and relax..

i had a spike from 7.5 to 11 one day….
not sure over how many days it was but wasnt more then 2-3..

not a big issue..

check your dosing pumps! mine was doing weird things

Wait! You added calcium and Alkalinity went up? Thats impossible. What are you dosing?

Calcium chloride?
All for reef?
Something else?

Double check your test kit?

Sounds as if you have some testing issues. Do you do waterchanges, I’ve noticed your tank is 18 gallon. Temperature and salinity tested and confir

I think my dosing pump might've broke and mistaken calcium for all and dosed the wrong thing, idk

9.3 isn't even that high honestly, I ran sps tanks at like 11-12 with amazing growth. That jump isn't that big either, also any fast change would do more damage than letting it come down naturally.

I'm just worried about the Acropora peeling, well actually its a frag so i wouldn't worry as much
