I hope everyone that got hit by the hurricane and have fish and corals that they remained safe! Unfortunately my fish and corals didn’t make it , wasn’t expecting such a strong hurricane and now we are going on day 3 without power. Even with emergency air bubblers it still wasn’t enough. Lost some nice stuff I was very attached and even my wife was too.

luckily, no. not many come up this way

Luckily no, but we did get hit with really bad storms like three weeks ago that had our power out for 5 days up here in East Texas, which produced 80mph winds. I lost nearly everything, and literally spent the last week resetting the tank and getting it ready to go again. I think that the first storm took down any trees that would have come down by the time Beryl got up here (we were still clocking like 40mph winds, with 70mph gusts)

I feel for you and your losses, having just gone through the same thing with the storm a few weeks ago. Hang in there!

We were hit pretty good. Day 3 with no power but I’ve been keeping the generator going and everything looks ok even with water temp getting to 83. Hoping we get power back soon. Having frozen water bottles have been a help keeping the temp manageable.

So sorry for your loss,

I'm in Houston.

Lost power since Monday morning. Luckily I had a generator and kept my tank circulating via return pump and MP40’s. The tank temperature got up to 84.5F. I went to multiple stores and found a Portable AC unit which brought the temperature back down to 80F. No loss. Finally got power yesterday night.

For some reason the skimmer worked better at pulling organics in higher temperatures??? Tank smelled awful.

Sorry for everyone that lost fish or coral. It’s a huge punch in the gut. I am right there with you. Definitely planning on improving my generator situation.

@CodyBot how are you doing, friend?

I am sorry everybody. I had tank crashed before. Once a large tank start to crash, I feel so sad and impotent, watching the animals spiral down.

Tank is still being built - but hurricane has stopped shipment on a few things for a week now.

We faired just fine. I have a natural gas generator that runs everything but the home AC unit. Nothing a few window units can't fix though. We got power back on Thursday, but most of my neighborhood didn't get it back until last night.

As far as reefers living in hurricane alley, generators are not optional. There are few things as certain in life as the fact that you're eventually going to get hit with a hurricane, you're going to loss power for a while, and your tank will all die if you don't have a plan in place to keep things alive for weeks, not hours. I know generators aren't as sexy as a new torch (to some, I suppose I find generators awesome haha) but you have to consider it part of your reef tank equipment, no different than pumps and lights.
