I have two torches a gold and a green that are the result of captive spawnings. The gold one came from a friends tank. The tiny torches where growing on everything from the glass to the overflow so I know they where not hitchhikers. I've had the one I was alowed to chip off a rock for around a year now. My friend also has a few of the survivors but I think mine is the largest.

The green torch is from a local fish store. It was growing on the egg crate in one of their tanks. I talked them into letting me cut off the small piece of egg crate where it was growing. At the time it was collected it wasn't much bigger than a pea and I wasn't even completely sure what it was. It has grown much faster than the gold one it's twice the size and I've had it about two thirds as long.

Never heard of success spawn to coral in captivity. Thought it was impossible. Heard of pocillopora polyp bailing and multiplying. Also euphyllia polyp bail out or portion of tentacle floating and anchoring. Could that be what you are referring to?

Nope these are from actual captive spawnings. Both the result of stress I would assume. I'll have to ask my friend but I believe the gold torch spawned shortly after going in the tank. The green one was the same. I've seen it happen in the store it came from when wild colonies are newly intruduced. The only two conditions I'm fairly sure were the same in both of these cases was that the colonies that spawned were newly introduced and both were kept in natural seawater.
