Not at home to feed fish some of the time. Looking at auto feeder. Any suggestions

I have two Eheim Everyday Fish Feeders and have no complaints. i only use them when I go on vacation. They take pellets or flakes and can be programmed to feed multiple times a day.

They work well if you set them up properly. My problem was that the food would float on the top of the water and into the overflow. So a feeding ring is a must! I added that underneath the feeder and the food will stay put until it gets eaten or sinks into the water column and then eaten. :)

I am going to be looking into the auto feeders by Neptune that I can integrate with my Apex controller.

Sorry for the mini-hijack, but is this “feeding ring” something you DIY’ed or something you purchased….I never heard of them. If you DIY’ed it, please provide details. Thanks.

I picked up an Eheim a while back and have never used it... Brand new in the box, in a drawer. Never really got past the idea of food going in the overflows. As soon as I can find one in stock I plan to get a Neptune. Lots of ideas for pump, skimmer, feeder scripting showing up for the Apex.

Eheims are the best stand-alone units by far IME (I have twelve - use them on QT systems too). Feeding rings are a must with an overflow, you can epoxy a magnet on the back side of them to replace suction cup.

Current AquaChef works fine for me....I picked this feeder ring from Dr. Foster's and Smith 6 years ago, still use it every day. Can't find it anywhere as i wanted to replace it with a new one. It's got everything growing on it. Snails will spend days on it eating the algae that's on it. Here's something similar:

Just cut a small slice off of your pool water noodle. It's just anything you can float with a hole in it. How about a drink "coozie" with the hole in the bottom?

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
