Hello, everyone.

This is my first attempt at making a post on R2R, so I apologize in advance if this is done incorrectly or in the wrong place!

I am hoping that someone here may be able to help me ID this small type of snail that has appeared in my tank. I had never seen one before, but I first noticed one after recently adding a new coral.

The creatures look like a small snail/clam, with a half-shell that is smooth and white. They are flat on the bottom and are generally oval shaped.

Here is a photo of two that I removed:

I’ve looked at different identification guides, and I’ve yet to see a clear match. From my reading, I think it may be some type of limpet? I am hoping to figure out what these are and whether they are “one of the good guys” so that any of the corals are not at risk!

Thank you for any help you might have!

Look up stomatella snails. If it matches they are a good thing.

It looks a bit like an abalone (which would be awesome), but I can’t see it close enough to say for sure…I’d lean toward something else. The shell looks smoother than the most common types of limpet hitchhikers….so I don’t think that’s quite right either…..

Final guess
Crepidula fornicata
Aka slipper limpet

That does look pretty close… but so does the slipper limpet. Interesting.

The pictures I included were of two I had pulled out a few days ago, but the other picture is one that is currently in the tank. Maybe I should go and collect it and put it in a cup to see if I can get any better photos

Either collanista or Baler snail or Ox-palate Nerite also called polished nerite
