Anyone buy distilled water jugs?

I do have RODI system, but in case of emergency, can I go buy those distilled water in jugs? At Walmart it's $0.8 per gallon. But Idk if the water can be used in the aquarium?

Idk about nursery water, as it’s probably more expensive and just distilled water. I don’t have the luxury of an RO/DI unit or an LFS so we use the pink top Walmart brand water. It’s RO water with no added minerals. Everything I’ve read says it’s absolutely fine to use.

Edit: It’s the pink top. Don’t mind my color blindness.

You can actually buy RO water at walmart. It's got the pink cap at my local walmart. I used it in my first tank for the initial fill and subsequent topoff until I got my own RO/DI unit.

As an aside, I have noticed depending on your location, the color of the top maybe different in your area(some use pink tops, while others have purple, and I've seen it with a blue top also).

It does say reverse osmosis on the label though, just make sure you read the label.

Only reason I would not use the distilled.....

Often times they use copper pipes and/or pots to boil the water and collect the steam(distilled), leaving copper elements left in the water. You just don't know for sure and never would until your tank starts to decline and you can't explain why.

Walmart brand distilled water (pink cap) is perfectly fine, I used it in a couple pico tanks for many years with no issues and long term it’s probably cheaper than a RO system for tanks up to about 20 gallons.

Just make sure it doesn’t say mineralized on the label for obvious reasons.

Whatever and wherever you buy your water that's where I would check TDS. As I've learned just because it says whatever on the label doesn't mean it is lol. Those in Florida remember Zephryhills being exposed. I buy mine from publix but do check and I'll get 0 to 2 readings.

I have used every form of drinking water in my pico including Dasani when I had no other for topoff. all harmless. various TDS readings give you a bit of scum on the glass as a main difference its not a system killer. I have used distilled water in my pico from every gas station and wmart in west texas. for many years I was mixing reef crystals into wal mart distilled as my sys water. then distilled for topoff/years.

Walmart sells r/o water for like .38 cents a gallon that works great and doesn’t kill the bank? Except u have to bring ur own jug

That’s what I’m doing, only difference is my Walmart’s pink top is distilled and the green top says drinking water but on the label it says filtered through R/O. I will say that once I started adding the pink top water for top offs my anemone shriveled up and obviously didn’t like it, he’s been that way since I added it so idk if It had a bit of copper in it from the process or what. Hoping that the green cap has good results, just did a water change with it today. I’m also trying to get rid of these dang diatoms, hoping that the green top works bette until I can afford an RO/DI unit.

Little update on this post, green cap that says RO on packaging seems to be the better option, immediately upon water change my nem already started to look a little better. 24 hours later with another top off with the green cap and it’s starting to stretch out again

See and this is what I was saying in my post about how they collect the steam from distilling it. More often then not, they use copper somewhere in the process and that can leach back into the water. Best to stick with the RO bottles.

As everyone else has stated the pink cap distileld form walmart is fine. I do not have an RO/DI unit and use these bottles instead. My last few tanks were filled with them and I have started buying them to fill the current tank build.

I feel like that’s exactly what happened, in super super small amounts. Didn’t kill anything, just made it noticeably uncomfortable.
