anyone degassing co2 from their ro water?

Curious how others are dealing with high co2 well water? Im trying to come up with a set up to degas my water before going to my booster pump. Let me know how you are getting around high co2?

You can use reservoir with a powerhead and air intake and it will blow off. You need low co2 in your house air, though - a closed up house with lots of co2 will not help.

I mix Muriatic Acid into my salt mix and the pH falls a LOT. It takes about 24 hours with a powerhead and air to get the pH back to normal.
 
My current experimental setup is to have my well water fill a tank that I have a little 24 v pump in that pumps water to my booster pump at about only 20lbs. That holding tank has an airstone in it to degas. The booster from there acts normally and I have a pressure switch on the outlet line that turns on and off the booster and supply pumps. I tried this without a supply pump and believe I damaged the booster trying to draw water. I am only getting 40-50lbs output from the booster. I use to use a hole di cartridge for 50 gallons. My first test with this I used about 1 in of resin for 30 gallons. Showing promise

That can work if you exchange the air in the container... probably need a complete open top and then to exchange the air in the room quite often too.
 
I run my ro into a 44 brute. Degas with a large airstone and commercial air pump for a couple days. Then I use a small pump to push it through the di into another 44 brute. This is in my garage so it's plenty drafty. My di still produces clean water after 6 months and hundreds of gallons

this is exactly what I set up for my well water C02 issue and it is working. My only challenge is how long it take to push the water from the Brute through the DI cartridge..what kind of pump are you using?.. I started out with a Sicce with 345 gah and is taking a long time..
 
From my understanding with talking to spectrapure is 16 ounces per minute is ideal for contact time with the resin, my numbers could be wrong but that kinda rings a bell in my mind for some reason. So that's what mine is set at using a valve and a 200gph pump. It does take awhile to push through the di but only a day to fill the rodi brute. I can make, Degas, and transfer a 44 brute twice a week. I could probably do it 3x but I don't use that much.
 
I treat my water before it gets to the house using a 325 gallon aeration tank off one of my well pumps. I have an artisan well that has a mild sulfur smell and the aeration tank in my pump house addresses that problem as well as any other gasses before entering my house.

 
I aerate mine in a 5 gal bucket with an air stone. Then it goes through the RODI. I tripled my DI life since using the degasser
 
Does the Co2 have any effect on the RO membrane itself? Everyone talks about the DI exhausting quickly but my RO membrane seems to be exhausting pretty quickly as well. A brand new 99% rejection spectrapure membrane I installed in mid-December is already reading 45tds after about 80 gallons of good product water. Incoming TDS is aprox 237 so about 81% rejection rate on the membrane.

I was also wondering if when my whole house water softener is flushing, if it could be sending Non-softened water to the RO/DI if it is also running when the flushing occurs? My Kinetico water softener flushes whenever it's "needed" vs most softeners being on a timer and flush in the middle of the night.

I've made some pretty costly errors with filters so far at this house (Community Well) vs when I was on city water. Frustrated

I am currently in this position of making costly errors with my softener automatically regenerating. Wondering if you have solved the issue? I am sure you burning through di resin almost 50% depletion after 44 gallons.

Couple things I did worked for me. I was topping off my sump directly from my RO/DI unit using a DC water solenoid valve to turn the RO water on when my sump dropped in the return chamber. This was causing lots of TDS creep exposure into the membrane with the constant on/off switching and exhausting the membrane really quickly, in turn exhausting the Di resin quickly. I now use a water storage container and a dosing pump to top off

The other was avoiding the regeneration on my home water softener. So, I force a regen before I make a large batch of water. At least 30 gallons at a time into my storage container for top-off, or my mixing container for salt water mixing.

Another is never let your softener run out of salt. I've made that mistake as well and blew out a membrane prematurely.

what do you mean by forced a regen before making lots of water? wouldnt this make the salt get through and then into your di resin?
 
so i think my solution is going to be to fill up my 100 gallon storage container and then let it degas with an airstone for at least 24-48 hours. then use the booster pump to pump that water through the rodi unit and into my other storage container. its a pain but seems like the best option.

@Viva'sReef Could you elaborate on your comments regarding the risk of the softener running out of salt? Thinking through your statement, it would simply mean the softener isn't "softening" which is no different than folks who simply don't run one.

Same question to blowing the membrane. How do you know that's a correlated event? I run a softener and guilty of running out of salt frequently.

I haven't observed any impacts on my inline TDS meters still registering 0 TDS on both sensors. What I have observed which is extremely strange is that the first RODI filter stage has yet to show any use. It is still white as the first day I installed it which is puzzling. I can only assume the inherit softening process does filter as it moves water through the softeners internal resin, but I wouldn't expect it to work that well to not show any aging in the downstream RODI's standard filter.
