I am wonder if anyone has ever made an area specific tank. I would like to do an Atlantic and gulf of Mexico tank. From what I know the corals in those areas include: mushrooms, zoanthids, sponges, gorgonias, and some non photosynthetic corals.

not really, i know a few people have done caribean tanks

right now I have a hawaii specific tank. Everything from the outside is illegal here, so my sand and rock is from the beach, and zoa's collected locally. pics when it matures.

oh plus a locally caught fourline and several tiny blennies and gobies i caught in tidepools.

Is it not illegal to havest in Hawaii? The Atlantic tank will have a shoal grass bed. My sand bed is a mature sand bed. The tank has been cycled and just been running with no fish or corals for a year. I will two hills of rocks rising out of the grass. Have gorgonias and sponges to add height to the aquascape. And have zoanthids and mushrooms to fill in around to add some bright colors. I would also have some sea squirts mixed in too. The cleanup crew would consist of nassarius snails, emerald crabs, and peppermint shrimp. The fish would consist of and atlantic blue tang, a school of blue chromis(4 or 5 fish), and two royle grammas.

from what i understand rock with living organisms on it is illegal, as are any stony corals. Zoas, gorgonians and seaweeds can be taken as long as you scrape them off the rock. Dry rock and sand can be taken from the beaches. There is even a fish hatchery nearby where they pump pure deep ocean water and its free to get :)
