Anyone else ever forget to remove a coral from its dip

Well as I was driving to work today I realized that I forgot to remove a small wall hammer from a bayer dip last night. I have and this coral for over 6 months and it never seemed to recover from an episode of low nutrients in the system which took place a couple of months ago. I noticed a worm shell on the side of the wall hammer and decided to give it a dip as a precaution. I normally just super glue vermetid snails but this looked like a different species that was larger and I wondered if anything would get driven out by a dip.

By the time I realized my mistake I was already 20 miles from home. I also figure its been in the dip for over 8 hours now and will have to be in the dip for several more hours before I can get home. I don't have high hope that this coral will survive.

Anyone else ever forget remove a coral from its dip? If so how long where they in the dip and did any of them survive?

I have never forgot to remove a coral from a dip myself. My work space has always been out in the open of a living area and leaving stuff laying around is a no no in our house!
 
I have definitely done that but only for an hour or so rather than the 15 min dip time.

Coral did fine.

8+ hours I'm guessing temp would do a number on it, but you never know.

If the wall is healthy there is a reasonable chance that it can survive especially if you use a circulation pump in your dip tank.
 
Just got home and moved the coral into a bucket of fresh tank water.

Oh man this is tragic. Best thing you could do right now is get it back in some water and get some flow on it.

Good luck! Hope it pulls through for you.

I never left a coral in a dip. I have left some green slimer frags in a pitcher of tank water for about 6 hours. The water was a thick gooey mess. All frags died.

Bro, that's looking better than I feared it would. I know we're not out of the woods yet, but I'm betting it pulls through at this point.
 
Well, on the plus side, if it DOES survive, it probably won’t have any pests!

Sorry my dude. I haven’t done this yet, but forget to plug stuff back in, turn stuff on/off.. many times. Fingers crossed for your hammer buddy.

That would be me, but my wife has saved my tank countless times lol. “Honey, you forgot to turn the pumps back on” :eek:

I was dipping a zoa rock in fresh water one day forgot it for the better part of an hour and it pulled through. It took it a few days to open but it did.
 
Years ago I was scrubbing GHA off a Zoa rock in the utility tub in the garage.

Phone rang.....

24hrs later realized Zoa rock was still in tub drying out unprotected

I put back in tank and 90+% of all Zoas popped back out within 30mins

Amazing.....
 
Never left a coral in dip but I did strand a fish in its shipping bag for an extra night. It shouldn't seem all that difficult to count to five ...... fish survived fortunately.
 
I forgot a clam I was freshwater dipping for half a day. It was fine and mo more pinched mantel after.
