Anyone else love their Trachyphylia corals?

I really like my Trachy's. The color variations are limitless and they are less expensive then scoly's for sure. One thing I wasn't expecting is their size increase. They can literally inflate to over twice their size which makes placement a concern. I think mine have grown in diameter also over the past 3 months and now when they puff up they really crown some other corals. No aggression yet but I may have to see about giving one or two of these to my coral shop for some store credit. They are really filling up the substrate but I still love them.

Yes I’ve only had one for a couple weeks or so. But I really like it. It loves to eat, which I enjoy watching.

I dont direct feed mine. Just broadcast feed fish food and coral nutrition but it's so cool the way they have that little trap door and extend that feeding arm tentacle like a catchers mit

I give mine a few pieces of Hikari Mega Marine every couple days. This is it while it is swallowing, then right after.

That's cool, my big red and green one shrivels up so tight at night half his skeleton is exposed. I thought he was dying but each morning he puffs up huge all day with the lights so I'm not going to disturb him at all

Apologies, the video isn't as focused as I thought it was. At around 12 seconds it gets sharper.

Does it appear healthy? It isn't nearly as vibrant and eye popping others shared. I am mapping out PAR values this week and will know more, but I have mine placed just under an overhang since I understood this species like less light. I am wondering if perhaps it needs more light.

Some of them have more subdued coloration but looking at your video it does seem shaded. They do need some light for their photosynthetic process of nutrients. So you may want to move it from under the shaded area. Mine are probably getting 50 to 100 par at the bottom but just a guess.

You can see the one in the back halfway in the cave but half out also to get the light.

Okay, thanks. An equivalent part of the tank without the overhang is measuring just under 100 PAR. I haven't recorded measurement for its location, yet. I'll do that and then I'll slowly move it out and see how it behaves.

I think that should be good as long as low to mild moderate flow also.

Trachys are probably my favorite coral. Here is mine when I got it and now. It’s got a lot more red to it and is recently getting some light blue back. I feed it directly once a week with mysis and it is getting around 140 umol of light under my Kessils.

I know the feeling. I ran out of room for this guy below in my system. I stuck him in sump while i was rearranging things. Remembered 4 days later. He had managed to turn himself upside down and was wedged in a corner with skimmer outflow pushed at him. Luckily the next day he was just fine.

Right now i got him in a small 13g tank ignore the dirty glass i dont usually have stuff in here.

I know the feeling. I ran out of room for this guy below in my system. I stuck him in sump while i was rearranging things. Remembered 4 days later. He had managed to turn himself upside down and was wedged in a corner with skimmer outflow pushed at him. Luckily the next day he was just fine.

Mine shrink up tight at night but inflate fat during the lighted day. I think their inflation is a good sign like a puffed up acan or candy cane. They inflate when they are happy and eating or sometimes they inflate to let the current move them to another position. You probably want to see yours puff up some during the daytime. They seem to love red sea AB and oyster feast.

I think 100 par might be to much but you want to leave them in place maybe 5 to 7 days to gauge their reaction because it gives them time to adapt. Also monitor the flow.
