Idk if it is because of the pandemic or not but just went picked up few things and am a little shocked over what I seen. My LFS is only doing the call us and we will bring to ur car. So I didn't see the prices till after I payed. But I know times are hard but I am not working right now so I need every dollar I got. Shouldn't bought what I did but got to maintain the tank. Just need to vent I guess. Am I in the wrong?

My LFS (there’s only one and it’s 45 minutes away) is currently having a sale. Mind you everything is almost 50% higher During regular operation than I can purchase at other retailers.

Yea u think they try help people by lower prices During this time not raise the. And my LFS isn't really local it 35min drive but closest one.

It makes it difficult to buy local(except for fish/inverts) instead of petco/pet smart/chewy.

The way the dollar has been in Canada, every Canadian online retailer bumped there prices up 10% to make up the difference. Luckily my Reef isn't currently setup so I don't have mandatory purchases and I can wait it out.

With sales down, we must increase price marginally to make up the difference to stay a float.
Think it’s going to get worse.
It’s not just fish stuff, grocery stores have done the same.
That’s capitalism. Yeh!

I'm sure they would love to do that but If they did they would most likely run themselves into the ground.

Most LFS exist by the skin of their teeth at the best of times and now with a massive drop in sales they will need to compensate the difference. Its a sucky situation for everyone and its a tough call to make but ultimately if an LFS goes out of business thats a hit to the entire community and honestly for the amount of resources a good LFS provides to countless individuals a price hike seems like a small amount to pay.

Again not saying it doesn't suck- I'm just saying I don't think there are any winners here.

Prices have gone up where I am in Canada a bit, but I don't blame the stores, the Canadian dollar lost value pretty quickly, so that means everything imported into Canada more or less will be going up in price, not just stuff in this hobby.

One of my LFS is having a sale on everything 15 percent off dry goods and 30 percent off live goods if you do curb side pick up. I went inside cuz I like to see fish before I buy.... and they still gave me the sale price so that was nice.

My other LFS I visited...prices were their usual but they are running out of livestock since you can't get much anymore....so I imagine that they will be losing money if they can't get the stuff in to sell.

Probably a lot easier for you to say not watching your sales (and thus your ability to pay your bills, pay your staff and hopefully pay yourself) plummet as store visits go way down thanks to social distancing.
