Anyone ever had a fish disappear....

Had somewhat of a similar incident. I moved 2 tanks a couple of months ago, in one tank is 5 nems and two clownfish all about 10 years old. I grabbed the rock the nems were on and placed in a large cooler then went back to get fish. For the life of me I could not find either clownfish. I assumed (and correctly) that they were in the nems. Sure enough when I placed nems in new tank - there they were. This hobby never ceases to amaze me...

I had a Randall’s Goby go MIA for two months. I was 100% he had died but one day he just came out.

If any of my fish have gone missing I've never seen them again :(

Oh, my cardinal pajama fish has been missing for 3 weeks. When I get home I'm going to take a peek in there. Doubt it went in cuz I cover it, but we'll see.
My overflow is slotted with really narrow slots. No way it fit through them, it had to have jumped.

The first wrasse I ever bought was a Carpenters. Went into the tank that night after his long trip from Florida to Jamaica, swam around for a bit then ducked into the rockwork. Two weeks pass and no wrasse so I'm super bummed and paranoid, searching all over the floor and peaking around the rockwork.

Friends told me wrasses hide for a while but two weeks is long. I check for ammonia, Nada. Just when I gave up and counted that US$200 (cost of fish plus greasing the necessary palms) a massive loss, I see the bugger come out and does his little wrasse wiggly fin dance and starts searching my rock like he hid money in them. Lol

A shark nose goby and a tail spot blenny went MIA on me. I think they swam into the circulation pump tube while it was feeding time.

All of this is giving me hope that my pink margin wrasse will one day reappear!
How did you like the pink marvin when you had it? I just got one, still female, and it seems a little more aggressive than I thought they were.

Mine was a terminal male but was very calm and just minded his business. He was a very good eater and was completely QT’d. It was a crappy thing when he disappeared. He had disappeared once before and was in the overflow for a few days before making his way down to the sump. Injured his eye in the process causing a Popeye. Back to QT and got him all healed back up and went to reintroduce. He was great for several days and no one was bothering him then gone again without a trace. I can’t see him in the overflow this time. He has been gone for 5 or 6 months at this point.

Did you have the tank covered? He didn't end up on the floor behind the tank did he?

No chance of jumping. Tight fitting glass lids with the slits cut just big enough for powerhead cords to pass through.

I have live rock in the first sump chamber that he could technically be in I guess but have never seen him there. Only about a 10 gallon compartment.

Huh, I hope he's in there somewhere and comes back for you. Mine hid for about a day and a half when she first went in to the DT but now she is always out unless it's night time. Nice tank though!

Yep. Last week my swalesi basslet popped out to say hi. I hadn't seen him in months. He's fat as a pig!
My candy basslet has disappeared his been in the tank for about a Week.is this normal in your experience?ive moved the rock around and nothing

...and she doesn't have any friends who are into elaborate pranks?
She's not pulling the old that old thing trick like when new shoes appear or a dress and they're like I've had it ages this smells of a secret trip to the lfs

I've never been fortunate enough to own a candy basslet, but I'd expect the behavior is similar. They're masters of hiding. Don't go looking for them. They'll pop up eventually. Like I said, I thought my swalesi was dead and worm good, and then he popped up months later. He's still alive today. He hides out in my rock work, but had become more bold. I see him often now.

Never a fish, but I lost an emerald crab for over a month and one day he just turned up and was out and about.

I have a juvenile long nosed hawkfish that disappeared. Three months later I was cleaning my filter socks (yeah, I don't do it often) and found him living in the sump, eating off the filter socks.

Despite netting, blocking and other things he's now figured out how to get into the sump on three separate occasions.

Currently playing this game, put two RBT Nems in the tank three days ago, haven't seen them since. and I have a DaVinci clown that I haven't seen in a week and a half, no idea where it is, scoured the floor for it around the tank and no dice, so I think its in there still somewhere...
